Opal Types

Black Opal

Black opal is one of the most valuable types of opal, known for its dark body tone that enhances vibrant flashes of colour. It is primarily found in Lightning Ridge, NSW Australia.

Boulder Opal

Boulder opal forms within ironstone rock, often showing natural patterns where the opal and host rock remain together. Each piece is unique, with rich colour and natural character. It is mainly sourced from Queensland, Australia.

Crystal Opal

Crystal opal has a transparent to semi-transparent body, allowing light to pass through and create a bright, luminous play-of-colour. It is found in several regions of Australia, including Coober Pedy South Australia and Lightning Ridge NSW

White Opal

White opal has a light or milky body tone, with a softer, more delicate play-of-colour. It is mainly sourced from Coober Pedy, South  Australia.

Doublet Opal

Doublet opal consists of a thin layer of natural opal backed with a dark material to enhance its colour. This allows for an alternative way to enjoy the beauty of natural opal.
